The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies in January rose 3.2 percent year over year to $8.7 billion, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. The average price for a domestic U.S. round-trip ticket was $476. In January, 17.1 million domestic U.S. passenger trips sold, down 1.2 percent year over year, while international passenger trips reached 10.5 million, up 2.9 percent. Total passenger trips edged up 0.4 percent. The number of trips handled by agencies that self-report as handling at least 70 percent corporate/government business rose 1.6 percent. The number of electronic miscellaneous document transactions, which involve ancillary services like premium seats, decreased 5.2 percent to 104,827, while EMD sales volume fell 5.1 percent year over year to $6.8 million.
