Air New Zealand has committed to purchasing 8,000 metric tons of "internationally verified, New Zealand nature-based carbon removals by 2030" through My Native Forest, the carrier announced Thursday.
My Native Forest is a platform to invest in planting and restoring native forests in return for verified carbon removals, which are a type of carbon credit, according to the carrier.
Air New Zealand has committed to 500 credit purchases in 2028, 2,500 in 2029 and 5,000 in 2030. The credits each represent one metric ton of carbon removed.
