Virgin America’s second-quarter net income increased more than 75 percent year over year to $65 million,
the carrier reported Thursday. Passenger revenue for the quarter was $400.9 million, nearly flat year over year, and expenses declined 5.3 percent, as fuel and maintenance costs came in significantly lower. Traffic, capacity and load factor also remained nearly flat year over year. Virgin America’s average fare declined 3.8 percent to $199.30 during the quarter.
