April's average daily hotel rate increased year over year in
the Americas but declined in all other global regions, according to STR Global.
ADR in the Americas increased 4 percent to $120.98, and
occupancy increased 1.7 percent to 66.5 percent. The San Francisco/San Mateo area
reported the largest percentage ADR increase, 12.1 percent to $213.30. The
largest decline occurred in Rio de Janeiro, 20.1 percent to $169.16. Bogota
posted the largest occupancy increase, 8.3 percent to 56.2 percent, while Sao
Paulo reported the largest decrease, 7.1 percent to 60.6 percent.
In Europe, ADR declined 13.2 percent year over year in U.S.
dollar terms to $121.97 but increased 8.9 percent in euros to €110.59. Of note,
Manchester, England's ADR grew 20.6 percent to €99.51. The largest percentage
ADR decreases occurred in Moscow (12.4 percent to €105.74) and St. Petersburg
(10.6 percent to €65.91). Occupancy in Europe rose 2.6 percent to 69.5 percent.
Sofia, Bulgaria saw the largest occupancy increase, 17.6 percent to 57.9
percent. Tel Aviv posted the largest occupancy decrease (8.9% to 70.6%).
The Asia/Pacific region experienced a 5.9 percent year over
year drop in ADR to $109.77. Occupancy increased 1.6 percent to 68.5 percent.
In local currency, Osaka reported the largest percentage increase, 30.9
percent, followed by Jakarta’s 16.3 percent. Hong Kong—struggling with
decreases in government spending, according to STR Global—experienced the
largest ADR decrease, 10.9 percent. The largest occupancy increase in the
region occurred in Bangkok (22.2 percent to 70.2 percent), while the largest
decrease came in Kuala Lumpur (12.3 percent to 61.7 percent).
April ADR in the Middle East and Africa decreased 4.6 percent to $168.47. Occupancy decreased 0.4 percent to 66.2 percent. The region's largest percentage ADR increases were in Doha, Qatar (12.3 percent to $201.08), while Muscat, Oman, reported the largest drop, 14.4 percent to $232.64. Cairo experienced the largest occupancy increase, 30.6 percent to 53.2 percent, while Amman, Jordan, saw the largest drop, 22.4 percent to 57.7 percent.
