Global air travel demand rose 7.1 percent year over year in August, and capacity increased 5.9 percent.
Those factors combine for a record-high load factor of 84.7 percent, the International Air Transport Association reported. International air traffic for the month was up 7.1 percent globally and across all regions, most strongly in the Middle East (13.7 percent), where capacity increased by nearly the same proportion. Global domestic traffic also rose 7.1 percent and in all major markets except Brazil (down 0.9 percent) and Japan (down 2.1 percent). India's domestic traffic growth rate was the highest, at 18.3 percent, “largely reflecting increases in service frequencies and economic strength,” according to IATA.
