American Express Global Business Travel clients in the first quarter on average paid $157 for U.S. hotel rates, up 5 percent
from a year earlier. For hotel stays outside the United States, Amex clients paid an average rate of $240, higher by 1 percent from the first quarter of 2011. Amex calculated average client rates by dividing total spending (excluding taxes) by total room nights booked.
