Air France-KLM's fourth-quarter passenger revenue increased 2.8 percent year over year to €5.2 billion amid "an improving trend" for medium- and short-haul routes.
Unit revenues were up both on domestic routes within France and from the group's medium-haul hubs as capacity growth on those routes moderated. Unit revenue was down on North Atlantic routes, however, as the group increased capacity 5 percent year over year and worked to "defend marketshare" on those routes, according to Air France-KLM. Unit revenue on routes to Asia was down slightly, as declining demand to China and Hong Kong offset stronger performance on routes to Japan, India and South Korea.
Air France-KLM reported fourth-quarter net income of €156 million, compared with a €217 million loss in the fourth quarter of 2018. For the full year, the group's net income was €290 million, down €130 million year over year.
