Air Canada's passenger revenues increased 2 percent year
over year to C$3.1 billion in the second quarter. The quarter marked the
carrier's heaviest expansion period in its history, with 10
new international routes and 11 new transborder routes launched, according
to president and CEO Calin Rovinescu. As such, capacity increased 11 percent
during the quarter. Traffic increased 9.3 percent and was up in all five of Air
Canada's geographic markets, and its load factor declined 1.2 percentage points
to 82.4 percent. Air Canada's yield was down 6.8 percent due in part to higher
market capacity and competitive pricing largely on domestic and European
routes, the carrier reported. Air Canada reported a net income of C$186 for the
quarter, down from C$296 million in the second quarter of 2015.
