Air Canada's passenger revenue increased 2.8
percent year over year to C$2.9 billion in the first quarter. Its yield
declined 4.7 percent due to increased market capacity, more competition on
regional routes and declining demand from the energy sector. Traffic increased
7.7 percent, and capacity rose 8.2 percent. As such, the carrier's load factor
declined 0.3 percentage points to 81.1 percent. Air Canada reported a net
income of C$101 million, compared with a C$309 million loss in the first
quarter of 2015.
