Strong international traffic growth pushed Air
Canada's passenger revenue up 10.5 percent year over year in the third quarter to
C$4.1 billion. The carrier increased capacity 20.9 percent, largely
international growth on North Atlantic and Asia/Pacific routes. Traffic rose
18.9 percent and international traffic about 28 percent, president and CEO
Calin Rovinescu said in the carrier's earnings call. Yield declined 7 percent,
stemming from longer average flights, increase in capacity of its low-cost
Rouge brand and strong competition on European routes. Air Canada reported net
income of C$768 million for the quarter, up from C$437 million in the third
quarter of 2015.
