Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur shifted to October
in 2016, benefiting U.S. hotels' September year-over-year results, according to
STR. Revenue per available room grew 5.6 percent, making September the best
month for RevPAR growth so far in 2016. Among the 25 markets with the most
hotel rooms, New Orleans saw the largest year-over-year increase in occupancy, up 13.1 percent to 68.6 percent, while Houston experienced the largest decrease, down 9.3 percent to 59.8 percent. The largest increases in average daily rate were
in Minneapolis/St. Paul, 15.7 percent to $136.28, and Los Angeles, 10 percent
to $169.93, while the largest decline was in Houston, 4.2 percent to $102.06.
