United Airlines beginning next month plans to cut more than 600 management and administrative positions,

chairman and CEO Jeff Smisek said Thursday during an earnings call. "Leadership starts at the top, and in December we reduced the number of our officers by 7 percent," he said. "Today we internally announced the difficult but necessary decision to reduce our management and administrative staff by 6 percent starting next month."
