US Airways posted a $287 million net profit for the second quarter, down 6 percent from the prior-year period.
Net income was "negatively impacted by a non-cash provision for income tax of $67 million," according to the carrier. Unit passenger revenue fell 0.5 percent year over year, largely due to a 2.8 percent decline in yield, a representation of fare per mile. Total revenues reached a record $3.9 billion, up nearly 3 percent on the strength of passenger traffic, which was up 5.1 percent on a 3.4 percent increase in capacity.
