Lufthansa Group posted a €255 million second-quarter profit, down nearly 43 percent from the prior-year period.
The company indicated weakness in its commercial passenger airlines business, which included the impact of labor strikes that forced its namesake carrier to cancel nearly 2,400 flights during the quarter. Revenue for the passenger group, which includes Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines, fell 0.3 percent year over year. Passenger volumes declined a modest 0.4 percent, with capacity down 0.1 percent. The airline group noted strength in the Americas, where "a substantial rise in sales combined with greater average yields (+2.0 percent) enabled traffic revenue to soar here by 8.6 percent."
