JetBlue Airways reported a $36 million second-quarter profit, down from $52 million for the prior-year period.
Quarterly performance was "negatively impacted by a sluggish economic environment and continued maintenance cost pressures," according to JetBlue president and CEO Dave Barger. Passenger unit revenue fell 3.3 percent year over year on a 7.3 percent increase in passenger traffic and 7.8 percent rise in capacity. The carrier's quarterly average fare fell 1.3 percent year over year to $157.51.
