JetBlue Airways reported a $230 million net profit for the three months ending June 30, up from $30 million for the prior-year period.
The airline's profit included special items, most notably a $242 million gain from the sale of its LiveTV subsidiary. Excluding such items, second-quarter profit was $61 million. The airline's average fare climbed nearly 7 percent year over year to $167.80, helping to lift passenger revenues 12.4 percent to $1.3 billion. Passenger traffic rose nearly 6 percent year over year on a 6 percent increase in capacity. JetBlue CFO Mark Powers during a conference call said the "domestic demand environment continues to be very strong."
