Delta Doubles Second-Checked-Bag Fee

Delta Air Lines plans to double its second baggage fee to $50 beginning Aug. 5, the carrier announced yesterday. The new fee is effective for travel purchased after July 31.

Delta upped the fee the same day corporate travel buyers gave Delta CEO Richard Anderson some grief on such charges during a general session at the National Business Travel Association conference in Los Angeles. Though Anderson said the carrier has no plans to join a few competitors in imposing a $15 fee for the first bag, he made no mention of the upped second bag charge.

Delta said it would shield First Class, BusinessElite and Medallion and international passengers from the upped fee.
