American Airlines parent AMR reported a $220 million second-quarter net profit,
"a $461 million improvement over the second quarter of last year," according the company. Mainline passenger revenue in the June quarter grew 1 percent year over year to $4.9 billion, representing the "highest passenger revenue for the second quarter in company history." Mainline passenger traffic grew 0.8 percent year over year on 1.1 percent more capacity, as yield—representing passenger fare per mile—was up only marginally by 0.2 percent year over year.
