American Airlines on Thursday reported a third-quarter profit of $942 million,
compared with a combined net income of $505 million in the third quarter of 2013 from standalone AA and US Airways Group. Consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile increased 1 percent year over year, and operating costs increased 1.6 percent. Passenger yield increased 2.6 percent. Traffic measured in revenue passenger miles increased 0.3 percent and capacity measured in available seat miles increased 2 percent, contributing to a load factor decline of 1.3 percentage points to 83.4 percent.
