United Airlines has added non-binary gender options in all its booking channels. Travelers can identify as undisclosed (U) or unspecified (X) and can select the title Mx instead of Mr., Ms. and other options. Airlines for America, the industry trade group representing most U.S. airlines, announced this year it will make non-binary gender options an industry standard as of June 1, and the International Air Transport Association has approved a similar standard. United also reported that it is working with LGBTQ advocacy organizations the Human Rights Campaign and The Trevor Project on employee training initiatives, including preferred pronouns.
