Travel safety and security app provider GeoSure has
incorporated a specific LGBTQ safety rating for more than 30,000 neighborhoods
globally. The company defines the
rating as the "likelihood of harm or discrimination against LGBTQ persons
or groups and level of caution required at location." Like the other
safety ratings in the app—which include women's safety, risk of physical harm,
theft, political freedoms and health and medical risk—the scale spans from 1 to
100, the lowest scores indicating safer areas.
The app provider
has a relationship with SAP: In June, Concur's TripIt incorporated GeoSure
safety ratings into TripIt
Pro. According to GeoSure CEO Michael Becker, the company is
pursuing relationships with a handful of well-known travel management companies
and is looking at direct relationships with corporates.
"We look at
travel risk in terms of stewardship," said Becker. "Companies need to
provide their business travelers with the information to make the right
decisions. Having access to this information is not about creating anxiety or
fear around travel; it's actually just the opposite."
GeoSure claims it
was the first company to compile a specific travel safety rating for female travelers
three years ago and that its LGBTQ rating is also a first. Asked about the
company's focus in this area, Becker said, "We are finding that companies
want to acknowledge the diversity of their employees and offer inclusive
resources."
