Expedia's Travel Agent Affiliate Program has added the capability for agents to add a discretionary agency charge on lodging bookings, the company announced.
The feature enables agents to apply charges up to 30 percent on both standalone lodging and package bookings directly within the Expedia TAAP platform rather than levying the charge as a separate transaction. Expedia TAAP VP Robin Lawther said the capability was "a highly requested feature," and the agency service charge is currently available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico as well as the U.K. and much of Continental Europe.
An Expedia spokesperson said that both business and leisure agents use Expedia TAAP, though Expedia did not disclose the percentage of users that were business travel agents.
