Starwood
Capital Group has launched an extended-stay brand, Uptown Suites. The company
describes Uptown as an economy-priced brand with upscale amenities, including
furnished lobbies with televisions and fireplaces and, in the rooms, full
kitchens, electric vehicle charging stations, high-speed W-Fi and smart
televisions. Uptown properties will be managed by InTown Suites, which owns and
operates its own portfolio of 188 properties. The first Uptown Suites opened in
Concord, N.C. Starwood Capital aims to place brand locations within walking distance
of dining, entertainment or retail outlets in urban locations and smaller
markets. More than 10 other properties are expected to open in the U.S. by
2019.
