More than two dozen properties in India under The Fern brand have joined Marriott's new Series collection brand, becoming the first hotels outside the United States to do so.
The hotel company announced the Series by Marriott collection this year, and said it had reached an agreement for the portfolio of Indian hotel management company Concept Hospitality Private Limited. That company operates more than 100 properties under brands including The Fern, The Fern Residency and The Fern Habitat, 26 of which have now joined Series.
The properties total more than 1,900 rooms in 23 cities, including Bengaluru and Mumbai, according to Marriott.
"India's vibrant domestic travel market and growing demand for dependable, affordable stays make it the ideal launchpad for this brand," Marriott International SVP of South Asia Kiran Andicot said in a statement.
Marriott in September said five properties from U.S. independent boutique hotel chain Found Hotels would join Series "over the course of the next year." Developer Hawkins Way Capital this week said two of those properties, in Miami Beach, Fla., and Santa Monica, Calif., had opened and joined Series.
