IHG Hotels & Resorts through 2028 will add more than 100
properties to its portfolio in Germany through a partnership with private
German hotel operator Novum Hospitality, the companies announced Monday. The
deal would increase IHG's presence in Germany to more than 200 hotels and
represent a significant increase of Garner, its new midscale brand.
Under the agreement, scores of Novum-operated hotels would
rebrand as IHG properties during the next five years. Fifty-two properties,
including those operating under Novum's midscale The Niu brand and some in the
development pipeline, would join IHG under a collaborative Holiday Inn – The
Niu brand.
Eleven properties, both open and in the pipeline, under
Novum's Acora Living in the City brand will convert to IHG’s Candlewood Suites
midscale extended-stay brand, making Candlewood's debut in Europe.
Fifty-six other Novum properties, both in the pipeline and
operating under Novum brands including Yggotel, Select and Novum, would convert
to new IHG midscale conversion brand Garner.
IHG unveiled
that brand in August, saying then that it planned to grow it globally, and
after announced plans to bring
Garner to Japan.
"This marks another milestone towards Garner reaching
its goal of more than 500 hotels in the next 10 years, and 1,000 hotels over
the next 20 years," according to IHG.
The Novum deal has a term of 30 years and includes "an
ambition to jointly develop further hotels over time," according to IHG.
"Bringing Garner to Europe in such a critical market as
Germany is a great moment, as is taking Candlewood Suites outside of the
Americas for the first time," IHG CEO Elie Maalouf said in a statement.
