Green Key Global, the hotel certification program operated
jointly by the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the Hotel
Association of Canada, has launched what it called an "entry-level
solution" for properties in the early stages of sustainability development,
the group announced Monday.
Green Key Ready, available now, is a program designed for
select-service and independent hotels interested in sustainability but
constrained in resources and without extensive sustainability processes in
place, according to the group. Participants will complete a 16-question form on
sustainability practices to assess their standing and receive "templates,
tools and best practices" with the goal of achieving Green Key
sustainability certification within 12 months.
The per-property Green Key Ready enrollment fee is $375,
according to Green Key.
Green Key Global managing director Anick Levesque in a
statement called Green Key Ready "an accessible and impactful solution
that ensures more properties can take meaningful steps toward sustainability."
The moves come one year after the partnership between AHLA
and HAC to operate Green Key Global formally took effect. The associations in
September 2023 announced they
would partner to bring the hospitality sustainability certification program,
which HAC established in 1994, to the United States.
