Choice Hotels International is set to expand its footprint across the U.S. with two development agreements. The hotel company has partnered with Checo Purchase Co. to build 27 WoodSpring Suites extended-stay properties in Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee and is taking Sleep Inn and MainStay Suites to California and Arizona.
Choice purchased the WoodSpring brand in early 2018, and for 2018, the brand won 75 franchise agreements and introduced 14 locations. WoodSpring VP of extended-stay hotel development Ron Burgett said the brand sought locations near business centers where demand for corporate extended stay is increasing.
Burgett told BTN that Choice looks to WoodSpring Suites to "ignite our other brands." That includes Cambria, which Choice markets to corporate travelers, the soft brand Ascend and midscale flags like Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn and MainStay Suites.
Choice also inked a deal with developer Jay Virk to expand Sleep Inn and MainStay Suites into California and Arizona with 15 new-construction properties. Brian Quinn, Choice VP and head of development for new-construction brands, said the locations will target business, leisure and extended-stay guests.
