The
pace of business transient bookings at North American hotels for the second
quarter is up 8.6 percent from this same time last year, according TravelClick.
Average daily rate for the segment is up 3.6 percent. "This is promising
news," said TravelClick senior industry analyst John Hach, as the segment
had "struggled for growth throughout much of 2016." In the nearer term,
however, business transient booking pace for the first quarter of 2017 is down
1.4 percent and ADR is up 4.1 percent. For the group segment, first-quarter
bookings are up 4.8 percent and second-quarter bookings are up 2.2 percent.
Group first-quarter and second-quarter ADR each up 2.6 percent. The January
North American Hospitality Review looks at group sales commitments and
individual reservations in 25 major North American markets booked by Jan. 1,
2017, for stays from January 2017 to December 2017.
