Location and History
Sintra's most famous hotel is perched on a hillside 1 kilometer west of town along a narrow lane that weaves its way down to the coast. A 30-minute drive from Lisbon airport, the hotel is close to the photogenic and colorful 19th-century Pena Palace, on a nearby hillside.
Once the home of the Dutch consul in Portugal, it later was the residence of the Marquis of Marialva before being turned into a majestic hotel.
