Hotel Marthof occupies a stunning historic stone building dating to the late 1800s. It is ideally situated on Basel's main historic district plaza, Marktplatz, overlooking the historic brick red town hall.
The corner building began as a restaurant which became a famed hang-out spot for the likes of Picasso, Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. In the 1950s, the owners acquired adjacent Marthof Building and expanded into a hotel.
