The number of U.S. hotels charging for in-room Internet use has declined by 12 percentage points during the past two years,
according to an American Hotel & Lodging Association biennial study of hotel trends, released on Wednesday. The 2014 study, which surveyed more than 9,600 hoteliers, found that only 11 percent charged for Internet service compared with 23 percent in 2012. Additionally, 82 percent of hotels in the survey offered complimentary breakfast; 74 percent said they offer healthy menu options, which was an all-time high for the survey since its onset in 1988. Amenities that are on the decline in the survey include minibars, newspaper delivery, in-room DVD players and hot tubs.
