The average daily rate at U.S. hotels in October increased 3.3 percent year over year to $113.48,
according to STR. The largest ADR increases were in Oahu (up 11.6 percent to $201.12) St. Louis (up 9.5 percent to $98.05) and Houston (up 8.4 percent to $106.09); the largest decline was in Denver (down 3.3 percent to $109.62). U.S. hotel occupancy increased 0.8 percent to 64.7 percent, and group occupancy was down 3 percent. Hotel room demand for October was below the year-to-date average, in part because of the U.S. federal government shutdown during the first half of the month—occupancy in Washington, D.C., declined 6.7 percent compared with last year—according to STR senior vice president Jan Freitag.
