The average daily rate at U.S. hotels in May increased 4.8 percent year over year to $115.35, and occupancy increased 4.9 percent to 67 percent, STR reported.
Occupancies at higher-end hotels topped 75 percent during the month, and U.S. hotels overall reported the highest revenue per available room on record, according to STR senior vice president of strategic development Jan Freitag. Among the top 25 U.S. cities, the largest ADR increases in May were in Nashville (up 13.4 percent to $115.74), San Francisco (up 13.4 percent to $203.18) and Houston (up 10 percent to $124.77). Only two markets had ADR decreases: Dallas (down 0.2 percent to $92.35) and Philadelphia (down 3.9 percent to $128.11).
