The average daily rate at Choice Hotels International's U.S. properties increased by 2.3 percent year over year during the first quarter,
the company announced on Monday. ADR was up across all Choice brands, most strongly in its Ascend Collection (9.5 percent) and its MainStay (6.1 percent), Suburban (4.5 percent) and Sleep (4 percent) brands. Occupancy increased by 1 percentage point to 45.5 percent. Net income for the quarter was $15.5 million, down from $20 million in the first quarter of 2012. Choice attributed the decline partially to costs related to the recent relocation of the company's headquarters.
