Rates at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide properties globally increased by 1.7 percent year over year during the first quarter of 2012.
Rates were up 2.7 percent in North America, 2.2 percent in Asia/Pacific
and 10.8 percent in Latin America, but decreased by 3.5 percent in Europe and
by 2.6 percent in Africa and the Middle East. Starwood's W brand had the
largest increase, 4.2 percent, while rates at most other brands increased in
the 2 percent range. Rates were nearly flat at Le Meridien and the St.
Regis/Luxury Collection brands, and were down 27 percent at Aloft properties.
Occupancy increased by 2.6 percentage points globally and across all global
regions during the quarter. Starwood's net income for the quarter was $128
million, up from $28 million in the first quarter of 2011.
