Negotiated corporate hotel rates for 2014 will increase by 5 percent to 6 percent compared with 2013,
according to an estimate released by New York University Tisch Center for Hospitality divisional dean Bjorn Hanson. Based on interviews with hotel representatives and corporate travel executives and an analysis of industry financial data, Hanson's analysis determined that "the difference between buyer and seller expectations for corporate and contract rates for 2014 is large," with buyers planning for increases of 4 percent to 5 percent and hoteliers aiming for an average increase of 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent. Hanson added that hoteliers also will push harder to separate from negotiated rates charges for such amenities as Internet access, fitness centers and breakfast.
