NYU Study: U.S. Hotels To Collect Record Fees In 2015

U.S. hotels will collect a record $2.47 billion in fees and surcharges during 2015, according to New York University hospitality clinical professor Bjorn Hanson. That figure is 5 percent higher than 2014’s total, which also broke historical records. This year’s result is the product of a 3 percent year-over-year rise in occupied rooms, as well as increases in both the volume and dollar amount of fees and surcharges, according to Hanson. In recent years, group business has experienced increased charges for bartenders and other event staff, special charges for set-up and breakdown of meeting rooms and administrative fees for master folio billing.
