The Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau has fined Hilton Worldwide $25,000 for obstructing an investigation into whether the hotelier has blocked consumers’ WiFi hotspot devices. Last November, in response to complaints filed by consumers, the FCC ordered Hilton to provide information and documents about its WiFi management practices. The company has failed to provide information for “a vast majority of its properties” in the year since, according to the FCC, and will face additional fines for further delays. Marriott International
settled a similar WiFi-blocking dispute with the FCC last year. The Communications Act outlaws malicious WiFi blocking.
