United Air Lines plans to resume in March service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tel Aviv, the carrier announced Wednesday. United, among other carriers, suspended service to Israel after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and Israel subsequently launched an offensive in Gaza.
Initial United Tel Aviv flights on March 2 and March 4 will stop in Munich "to ensure all service providers are ready to support nonstop service to and from Newark," according to the carrier. No Newark departures to Tel Aviv are planned March 3 or March 5. United then expects to resume daily nonstop flights between Newark and Tel Aviv on March 6.
In making the decision to resume service, United said it worked with security experts and government officials in the United States and Israel, as well as with the Air Line Pilots Association and the Association of Flight Attendants to conduct a detailed safety analysis.
United will continue to monitor the situation in Tel Aviv and adjust the schedule as warranted. Resumption of flights from San Francisco, Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare will be evaluated for a possible autumn 2024 launch, according to the carrier.
Delta Air Lines also may resume Tel Aviv flights. The carrier has added daily flights beginning May 1 between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Tel Aviv, according to data from airline analytics company Cirium.
Delta flights to Tel Aviv have been suspended through April 30, according to a Delta spokesperson, who added the carrier had no further updates on the topic at this time.
American Airlines has suspended Tel Aviv flights through Oct. 28, 2024, however Cirium data also shows flights between JFK and Tel Aviv beginning in October on the schedule. An American spokesperson directed BTN to its travel alert page, which does not list a resumption date.
