International Airlines Group is cutting capacity 90 percent
in April and May, a more aggressive plan than the 75 percent cut for the two
months announced a few weeks ago.
In addition, British Airways has reached an agreement with
trade unions to furlough more than 30,000 cabin crew and ground-based employees
over the next two months. The agreement, subject to union ratification, gives
those employees 80 percent of their base pay over the period. British Airways
also reached an agreement for its 4,000 pilots to take four weeks of unpaid
leave over the next two months.
IAG has reached similar agreements with more than 17,000
employees in Spain and is working to reach agreements with employees in
Ireland, according to the group.
