Vietnamese low-cost carrier Pacific Airlines has signed an agreement to adopt Sabre's Passenger Service System, which will enable it to merge to a single, integrated passenger platform with flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
The integration comes as Vietnam Airlines is acquiring Qantas' 30 percent stake in Pacific Airlines, which reverted back to the original Pacific Airlines name from Jetstar Pacific along with Qantas' sale. That sale brings Vietnam Airlines' stake to more than 98 percent.
Pacific Airlines had been on Amadeus' Navitaire system, and Vietnam Airlines expects to "transition quickly" to the Sabre PSS.
Vietnam Airlines has been on Sabre's PSS for more than a decade, and Sabre and Vietnam Airlines last year signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their relationship to include use of such Sabre technology as the Sabre AirVision planning and scheduling tools as well as a long-term distribution agreement through Sabre's global distribution system. Pacific Airlines is now part of that agreement as well, according to the announcement.
