Multimodal booking platform Omio has secured a $10 million
investment from investment platform Granite-Integral to boost its expansion
across Japan and Southeast Asia, the company announced.
Omio said the investment allows it to tap travel and
technology expertise in the region from Granite-Integral, a joint venture
between Japanese private equity firm Integral Corp. and Singapore-based
technology investment firm Granite Asia. That includes strengthening local
partnerships in the region, deepening its transport network and growing
regional teams both in Japan and its AI technology hub in Singapore.
"With Granite-Integral's unparalleled regional
expertise, we intend to accelerate a new era of connected travel in Japan,
expand our presence across Southeast Asia and continue building a more
connected future for travel across Asia," Omio founder and CEO Naren Shaam
said in a statement.
Omio largely is a leisure-focused platform but also provides
an API and white-label solutions for other travel partners, including corporate
platforms, travel agencies and online travel agencies, according to a
spokesperson. In addition, its Omio Business offering targets small businesses
and solo business travelers.
The platform is part of the larger Omio Group, which also
includes travel discovery brand Rome2Rio. The group last week announced plans to
acquire rail distribution platform Rail Europe.
