Direct
Travel announced on Thursday it is "back on the acquisition trail"
with the purchase of Colpitts World Travel for an undisclosed sum. The deal follows
a nearly yearlong lull in acquisition activity from the travel management
company.
Direct
Travel called Colpitts "one of the largest privately-owned TMCs in the
Northeast," with annual sales volume topping $100 million and more than
100 employees. Headquartered in Norwood, Mass., Colpitts also has locations in
the United Kingdom and Toronto.
Direct
Travel has executed about a dozen agency acquisitions as part of a plan,
commenced in 2011, to consolidate corporate travel management companies. Those
include Minneapolis-based Corporate Travel Services, San Jose-based Travel
Management Corp. and Peak Travel Group, Nashville's Caldwell Travel,
Baltimore-based Travel Destinations Management Group, Maine-based Hurley Travel
Experts, Vermont's Child Travel, Chicago's Best Travel and Hobson Travel, Suzi
Davis Travel in Indiana and Wisconsin-based Creative Group.
