Private aviation companies spend considerable sums on crew travel with scheduled airlines, and the largest private aviation company of all is NetJets, a subsidiary of holding company Berkshire Hathaway. It has a fleet of 862 aircraft. It has 9,500 employees providing on-demand travel to more than 5,000 airports globally. BTN estimates the company’s spend on its own employees’ U.S-booked scheduled flights at $77 million.
NetJets has 50 facilities worldwide and a sales presence in 25 countries, and operates 1,200 flights daily. The number of aircraft in NetJets’ shared aircraft ownership programs increased 6.9 percent across the year and in-flight hours jumped 11.3 percent. Along with higher average rates, these upward figures increased revenue for Berkshire Hathaway’s aviation services division, of which NetJets forms a major part, by 9.1 percent.
