Medical device and healthcare company Abbott completed the acquisition of Madison, Wis.-based cancer diagnostics company Exact Science for $21 billion in March 2026. Abbott’s workforce has expanded accordingly from 115,000 employees at the end of 2025 to 122,000 as of September 2026.
Abbott operates in 160 markets, with manufacturing facilities in more than 90 countries. A new medical devices plant opened in Mexico in 2025, and the company started work on a cardiovascular device manufacturing facility in the U.S. state of Georgia, scheduled for completion by 2028. Sales in 2025 amounted to $44.3 billion, representing organic growth of 6.5 percent for its underlying base business.
BTN estimates Abbott's 2025 U.S.-originating air volume at $93 million. Abbott's 2025 emissions resulting from business travel were 168,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, equating to 3 percent of Scope 3 emissions. For 2024, Abbott reported 112,000 metric tons of business travel emissions, but noted changing methodologies have made some direct comparisons inapplicable.
