US Airways next month will reclassify its fares
in preparation for combining all reservations next year onto the EDS Shares res system used by merger partner America West Airlines (US Airways will migrate from a Sabre platform). The change entails new flight numbers for US Airways and AWA flights and adjustments of all Airline Tariff Publishing Co. filings covering corporate negotiated rates. It also includes additional fare classes, representing a step away from the simplified fare structure AWA first introduced in 2002. Travel agents should expect schedule-change messages via global distribution systems for each impacted segment already booked. US Airways cautioned that failure to accept those changes would complicate Web and airport kiosk check-in, upgrade requests and seat assignments.
