UBS analysts revised downward their 2009 total revenue forecasts for several U.S. airlines
. American Airlines now is projected to experience a 7 percent year-over-year revenue decline. The United Airlines drop is forecast at 6.3 percent and Delta Air Lines' at 3.5 percent. "Pretty much all of the economic and travel industry data points suggest travel demand will be bad to very bad in 2009," according to a UBS investors note. "In light of this we are now modeling revenue down about 5 percent industry wide. This is 2.5 percent below our prior forecast. We are optimistic that this will be the last downward revision to revenue required as only the September 11th period saw a larger revenue reduction than what we are forecasting."
