U.S. airlines appear to have succeeded in pushing through the second widespread domestic airfare hike of 2009
, according to FareCompare CEO Rick Seaney. Seaney wrote on his Web site that American Airlines initiated a $10 to $20 roundtrip price increase "on a significant number of U.S. routes," and that United Airlines, Delta Airlines/Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines all have matched. The first fare hike of the year--a $20 roundtrip price increase--occurred last week, according to Seaney.
