U.S. Department of Transportation fined Continental Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and US Airways for "violating DOT consumer regulations."
The DOT said Hawaiian and US Airways failed to inform consumers that certain flights were operated by codeshare partners, and levied civil penalties of $50,000 and $70,000, respectively. Continental was assessed a $75,000 civil penalty for advertising fares on its Web site that initially "did not contain a notice of additional taxes or government fees," and for listing one-way fares without disclosing that roundtrip purchases were required.
