Transportation Security Administration prohibited Verified Identity Pass from enrolling new participants in its Clear registered traveler program
The after an unencrypted Verified laptop "was discovered to be missing from San Francisco International Airport on July 26. The computer contained pre-enrollment records of approximately 33,000 customers." Verified is tasked with "immediately" notifying impacted individuals, and TSA instructed airports operating the Clear system to cease "use of any unencrypted computers" and to secure computers "until encryption can be installed." Civil penalties are another potential punishment for violating TSA's rules about encryption for registered traveler program operators, the federal agency said. Current Clear users are unaffected.
